XenClient Project Thunder

Citrix XenClient extends the benefits of desktop virtualization to corporate laptops and makes PCs more manageable, reliable, and secure.

XenClient Project Thunder, announced at Synergy LA 2013, is a major advancement in client virtualization systems based on centralized image management and a Type-1 hypervisor. It includes the most highly requested features from our enterprise customers and further supports mobile workstyles and the steadily increasing use of corporate laptops.

The key high-level themes of XenClient Project Thunder are:

  • Enhancements to the XenClient Synchronizer management console, which enables XenClient to address more use cases and with an improved ROI
  • XenClient interoperability with other Citrix products for ubiquitous, secure access to user’s desktops
  • Expanded hardware compatibility to support the latest platforms from Intel and the latest generation of devices

XenClient XT 3.1

XenClient XT is an advanced client virtualization solution built on a security-enhanced Type-1 hypervisor that delivers high levels of isolation and protection for public sector organizations. 

The latest release, XenClient XT 3.1, continues to build upon the Ivy Bridge hardware support, developer extensibility, and centralized management capabilities introduced in the previous XenClient XT release by delivering the high levels of security, isolation, performance, and auditability that public sector organizations need.

XenClient XT runs on selected Intel vPro desktop and laptop COTS hardware from Dell, HP and Lenovo. See the entire XT hardware compatibility list (HCL) and try XenClient XT 3.1 for free.

Expanded device support with a broader HCL with new devices such as:

  • HP Folio 9470m Ultrabook
  • AMD FirePro V5900 GPU graphics card
  • AMD FirePro V7900 GPU graphics card
  • Lenovo Tiny M92p (Intel) wireless adapter

Support for new guest VMs and improved capabilities in existing guest platforms:

  • Support for Ubuntu 12.10
  • Support for Windows 8 (single-touch only)
  • Enhanced Linux support with an in-guest VM switcher bar and improved support for USB devices in Linux VMs

Improvements to the Software Development Kit (SDK) for service VMs including:

  • Support for memory introspection of VMs for malware detection and forensics
  • Access to Service VM APIs from Windows VMs
  • New APIs for display composition to enable “single pane of glass” view of isolated VMs with different risk and asset values

Additional centralized management capabilities in the Synchronizer such as:

  • Deployment and configuration of Service VMs in the Synchronizer
  • Delivery and booting of VMs from ISO images
  • Policies to prevent users from changing VM properties
  • Policies to manage VM disks (read-only VM disks and non-persistent VM disks)
