The Citrix NetScaler is much more than a load balancer; it's really an all-in-one Web application delivery system that makes applications run many times better by ensuring server availability. It does this through advanced traffic management by identifying content in the layers of a network packet. As a solution, NetScaler also increases security with an integrated application firewall. It can also lower costs substantially by offloading stressed servers and thus easing maintenance-related expenses.

The intersection of customer enterprise data, social data and web analytics will drive at IDC what we call big data. This explosion in content is not only shaping changes in IT infrastructure but is creating demand for network intelligence. By expanding its NetScaler offering to include the data tier Citrix is demonstrating how network intelligence can evolve and adopt to provide scalability, availability and security to next generation public and private cloud requirements.

As the volume and importance of data grows, enterprises are searching for easy to manage solutions to scale their database infrastructure. Citrix NetScaler with DataStream technology offers native support for the Microsoft SQL Server TDS protocol. When combined with its load balancing capabilities, this offers an integrated solution to increase database scalability. Based on the research results from this study, Enterprise Management Associates™ concludes that Citrix NetScaler enjoys higher levels of satisfaction by IT professionals across the broadest range of measures when compared against both F5 Networks and Cisco Systems. Citrix NetScaler was rated most favorably in 16 of 21 categories, and by a significant margin in seven of those categories. Second highest responses were accorded to F5, who was most favored in five of the 21 categories, three of which were by significant margins. Cisco Systems did not fare as well as the other two, managing to achieve a close tie in one category but never ending up as most favored in any of the categories included in this research.
