Life’s Good with Citrix GoToWebinar and Citrix GoToMeeting

LG Electronics Deutschland saves costs and lifts their productivity level with web conferencing tools from Citrix

LG Electronics Deutschland has selected web conferencing solutions GoToWebinar and GoToMeeting from Citrix for easy-to-use, do-it-yourself online trainings and to enable more interactive and productive meetings. As an essential part of their partner programme, LG Deutschland offer their reselling partners and large enterprise customers free online product and sales trainings. When choosing a suitable training solution, Frank Sander, head of marketing Information System Products (ISP) at LG Deutschland was faced with a dilemma. The limited network capacities of the former German headquarters in Willich meant that only a system with minimal bandwidth requirements would be suitable for the business.

We tested several training solutions over a long period, but the limited network capacity was the reason for almost all of them to fail. GoToWebinar was the only system to work seamlessly under these conditions with consistent audio quality and a stable connection when sharing your screen.

The impact of the introduction of GoToWebinar on the ISP business has been huge. The number of onsite trainings was reduced instantly which has resulted in massive cost savings. “It’s simple, in the time we needed to conduct one onsite training, we can now prepare and host up to five online training sessions”, Sander explains. “We estimate that the costs of one onsite training with all the associated travel and accommodation expenses is up to four times higher than for trainings we conduct via GoToWebinar.”

In addition to GoToWebinar, the web conferencing solution GoToMeeting has been rolled out across the organisation. Sander highlights that Citrix solutions are open systems enabling everyone to join a meeting or online training without the need for prior installation or additional hardware. “We do have a permanently installed video conferencing system at LG. But for calls outside of the business, I can only use it if the recipient has the same system in place. With GoToMeeting this is no obstacle.”

Our weekly meetings with our external sales agency, which previously had to be conducted via phone, are now far more interactive. If, for example, we need to review a complex spreadsheet, I can now show everyone exactly my screen and explain what I am talking about. In addition to this I can hand over presenter and control rights with just one click to a colleague and enable him to show his screen and work together in real time. It couldn’t be simpler.

With GoToMeeting with HDFaces, meetings at LG ISP are now even more social, as up to six participants can simultaneously share their webcam. “It’s great that we’re able to see each other in our virtual meetings and have that critical face-to-face time”, Sander comments. “A nice side effect of the integrated video is that no one can hide behind the others any longer. Everyone has to listen and bring in own ideas as you’ll notice immediately if you don’t have the full attention of the participants. This makes meetings far more interactive and effective.”

Sander is already looking at other opportunities to meet the needs of its increasingly mobile workforce. “I can imagine providing our field sales team with LG smartphones and tablets, to enable them to use GoToMeeting via mobile devices while on the road and not have to wait for the next fast food restaurant where they can sit down and join a meeting with their laptops.”

LG Deutschland is not the only member of the global LG family using tools from Citrix, transforming the way they work and collaborate. LG CNS, a subsidiary of the LG Group based in Korea leverages Citrix XenDesktop to virtualise desktops across the organization, constructing a safer and more convenient desktop environment.

“The flexibility and reliability of Citrix tools have proved to be an all-round success for LG Electronics. By providing its customers and partners with easy access to online training and enabling its workforce to collaborate more effectively with colleagues, LG has succeeded in increasing employee engagement and productivity whilst at the same time driving costs down,” says Robert Gratzl managing director VP & GM EMEA for the Online Services Division of Citrix.
